DUSHANBE, July 30, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Eight small hydro power plants with a total capacity of more than 7,900 kW have been built in Tajikistan within the framework of the project, Construction of Small Hydro Power Plants in Rural Areas of Tajikistan.
An official source at Barqi Tojik, the state-owned national utility company, says the main objective of the project is in extending power to rural areas and the hydropower plants have been built due to a loan provided by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
“The Marzich hydropower plant with capacity of 4,300 kW has been built in the Ayni district (Sughd province, the Shash-boloi hydropower plant with capacity of 183 kW has been built in the Nourobod district (eastern Tajikistan), the Sangikar hydropower plant with capacity of 1,000 kW has been built in the Rasht district (eastern Tajikistan), the Fathobod hydropower plant with capacity of 282 kW has been built in the Tojikobod district (eastern Tajikistan), the Pitavkul hydropower plant with capacity of 1,104 kW has been built in the Jirgatol district (eastern Tajikistan), the Toj hydropower plant with capacity of 304 kW has been built in the Shahrinav district (central Tajikistan), the Shirkent hydropower plant with capacity of 576 kW has been built in Tursunzoda (central Tajikistan), and the Khorma hydropower plant with capacity of 180 kW has been built in the Baljuvon district (Khatlon province),” the source said.
29 hydropower plants, including 16 small hydropower plants, are now under authority of Barqi Tojik.
