DUSHANBE, February 6, 2015, Asia-Plus – The feasibility study for construction of a modern cargo terminal at the Dushanbe airport has reportedly been completed and the airport authorities are now seeking contractor to build the cargo terminal.

Mahmadyusuf Shodiyev, a spokesman for Dushanbe International Airport (DIA), says DIA has announced the date for carrying out tender for construction of the modern cargo terminal at the Dushanbe airport.

“DIA and consortium of Japanese companies, namely Nippon Koei CO., LTD, Japan Airport Consultant, Inc, and Daiken Sekkei Inc signed an agreement in Dushanbe on November 3, 2014 and in accordance with this agreement, the consortium of Japanese companies will act as a consultant to the project to improve the airport infrastructure,” Shodiyev said.

He recalled that a serious work carried out by specialists of DIA and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) resulted in signing of a trilateral protocol between the Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan, DIA and JICA in June last year.

“On September 29, 2014, a grant agreement on the Project for Improvement of Dushanbe International Airport,” said Shodiyev.  “In accordance with the grant agreement, JICA provides nearly 19 million U.S. dollars at no cost to Tajikistan to improve the DIA infrastructure.”

The new cargo terminal will allow considerably increasing cargo transportation volumes and farm produce exports as well as creating ramified route network for transit flights and bringing the country out of transport deadlock, the spokesman added.
