DUSHANBE, March 27, 2015, Asia-Plus -- Russia’s Ivanovo Oblast is interested in resuming cooperation with Tajikistan in textile industry.

Mohammad Egamzod, a spokesman for the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, says this issue was discussed at a meeting of Tajik Ambassador to Russia Imomuddin Sattorov with Ivanovo Governor Pavel Konkov that took place in Ivanovo yesterday.

“In the course of the talks, Konkov noted that a delegation of Ivanovo Oblast plans to visit Tajikistan in May,” Egamzod said.

The delegation is expected to visit, first of all, Khatlon Province with which Ivanovo Oblast signed a cooperation agreement.

Ambassador Sattorov reportedly outlined agriculture as area for implementation of joint projects.  According to him, Tajikistan could supply its farm produce to Ivanovo Oblast.

Ivanovo Oblast is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast).  Its three largest cities   three largest cities are Ivanovo (the administrative center), Kineshma, and Shuya.  The principal center of tourism is Plyos. The Volga River flows through the northern part of the oblast.

Ivanovo Industrial Oblast was established on January 14, 1929.  On March 11, 1936, this area became the modern Ivanovo Oblast while other territories of the province were split to create Yaroslavl Oblast.

Industry in Ivanovo Region is subdivided into several main sectors, including the light, chemical and petrochemical, forest, and metal-working industries.  The primary and the most developed sector is the light industry, made up of the clothing, knitting, textile and shoe industries.  Companies in this sector employ half of the region''s industrial workers.  The textile industry, which began developing in the last quarter of the 17th century, is of fundamental importance.  Textile companies in the region produce half of Russia’s textiles.
