DUSHANBE, October 28, 2015, Asia-Plus -- The Main Geology Directorate under the Government of Tajikistan is seeking the World Bank funds for creation of a modern laboratory and invitation of international experts for training of Tajik specialists on how to operate the lab equipment.
These issues were reportedly discussed here on October 27 at a meeting of senior representatives of the Main Geology Directorate with representatives of the World Bank.
According to the Main Geology Directorate press center, representatives of the World Bank noted that they will take efforts to implement this project.
Issues related to Tajikistan’s mining sector, adoption of the law on mineral resources in a new edition, and participation of Germany’s GAF AG in designing and implementing a new mining title-cadastre and registry system for Tajikistan were also discussed during the meeting, the source said.
The overall objective of the project for modernization of Tajikistan’s mining cadastre is in improving governance in the mining sector by establishing a transparent system for granting and managing mineral permits. The efficient and reliable administration of such titles is considered to be a key factor in increasing investment and growth in Tajikistan’s mining sector.
The project has a duration of two years and is embedded in the Tajikistan Private Sector Competitiveness Project funded by the World Bank/International Development Association (IDA). It was launched as a response to Tajikistan’s request for assistance in developing its mineral sector. It will result in the introduction of best practices and will strengthen the contribution of Tajikistan’s mining sector to economic development in the country.
