DUSHANBE, November 4, 2015, Asia-Plus  -- Over the first ten months of this year, all categories of farms in Tajikistan have produced some 475,000 tons of potatoes, which is nearly 72,000 tons more than in the same period last year, an official source at the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) told Asia-Plus Wednesday afternoon.

According to him, potato yields over the report period have stood at 23 tons per hectare, which was 370 kilograms more than in January-October 2014.

This year, 21,200 hectares have been allotted to potato cultivation.  “To-date, farmers have produced potatoes from more than 20,000 hectares,” the source added.

In 2014, Tajik farmers produced more than 500,000 tons of potatoes and specialists from a MoA expect Tajik farmers to produce approximately the same amount of potatoes this year as well.
