Seven new tourist companies have begun operating in Tajikistan.

Limited liability companies Elite Tour, Alp Somon Tour, Jahongard, Javononi Rohi Abreshim, Falcon, Intourist, and Sayhon received licenses from the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan on October 26 bringing a total number of tour operators functioning in Tajikistan to 118.

Of 118 tourist companies operating in Tajikistan, 53 are engaged in sending Tajik tourists to foreign countries, while the remaining 65 tour operators are reportedly engaged in receiving and serving foreign tourists in Tajikistan.   

According to the statistical data from the Committee for Youth Sports and Tourism Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, more than 463,700 foreign nationals visited Tajikistan last year.  More than 413,800 of them visited the country as tourists.

In 2015, tourist arrivals reportedly earned Tajikistan about 207 million U.S. dollars.

Meanwhile, the World Economic Forum (WEF) ranks Tajikistan 76th among 141 nations in terms of safety.

The World Economic Forum published the first Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report in 2007.  The 2007 report covered 124 major and emerging economies.  The 2008 report covered 130 countries, the 2009 report expanded to 133 countries, and the 2011 report to 139 countries. The index is a measurement of the factors that make it attractive to develop business in the travel and tourism industry of individual countries, rather than a measure of a country attractiveness as a tourist destination.  The report ranks selected nations according to the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI), which scores from 1 to 6 the performance of a given country in each specific subindex.  The overall index is made of three main subindexes: (1) regulatory framework; (2) business environment and infrastructure; and (3) human, cultural, and natural resources.
