A Chinese company intends to construct a leather and wool processing plant in the Tajik southern province of Khatlon.  If the issue of allocating a land plot is resolved, construction work and equipment delivery will begin already in June, says the press center of the Khatlon governor’s office.

On Monday May 27, Khatlon Governor, Mr. Davlatali Said, reportedly received Mr. Gao Jong Tao, CEO of China’s Fuxin Xinyida Agriculture & Industry Trade Company.

The province's strong bilateral relations with influential Chinese enterprises and operation of the Tajik-Chinese joint ventures in the area were brought up during the meeting.

Khatlon governor told Chinese partners that economic relations between the province and Chinese entrepreneurs have been developing year after year.

“To-date, various Tajik-Chinese joint ventures have operated in the province, especially in the agrarian sector.  The province authorities try to create favorable conditions for investors and provide assistance to them,” the Khatlon governor said.

According to him, Khatlon province views the development of regional cooperation as a vital element in economic and trade advancement, investment attraction, and the implementation of modern technologies.

The Khatlon governor also informed the Chinese delegation that in 2023 alone, Khatlon produced 1.140 million pieces of cattle and small livestock leather, along with 5,970 tons of wool.

“Unfortunately, only 0,4 percent of leather and 1.2 percent of wool have been processed so far.  If you launch this plant, we will be able to  provide it with raw materials,” Davlatali Said noted.

Mr. Gao Jong Tao, for his part, noted that in addition to the leather and wool processing plant, their company also intends to build greenhouses in Khatlon province.

The Khatlon governor instructed to resolve the issue of allocating a land plot for construction of the mentioned plant as soon as possible.
