A new small hydropower plant with a capacity of 275 kW will be commissioned in the village of Yoged, Darvoz district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).  The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources (MoEWR) says the plant’s construction is actively underway.  Once operational, this plant will connect to the main power grid, improving electricity supply for residents of the Darvoz district.

Additionally, Pamir Energy Company reports that the 10 kV power transmission line in the area has been restored.  Outdated 10 kV power transmission lines from the village of Shirgovad to Nulvand (23 kilometers) were replaced with modern 35 kV power transmission lines, significantly enhancing the quality and reliability of power for 424 households. Fifteen new 35/0.4 kV transformers have also been installed along this route.  Construction continues on the power transmission line from Nulvand to Roghak (15 kilometers), expected to be completed by late November.

It is worth noting that GBAO is one of the few regions in Tajikistan where power rationing is not an issue, a contrast to other regions of the country where residents are already facing electricity shortages.

Pamir Energy Company was founded in 2002 with financial backing from the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.  Under a concession agreement with the Tajik government, the company is responsible for the management and operation of all energy assets in GBAO, representing the first public-private partnership in Tajikistan.
