A delegation from the Saudi Development Fund (SFD), led by Mohammed Almasoud, a Director of the SFD Central Asia Operations, has arrived in Dushanbe on an official visit.

A press release issued by the Arabia Saudi’s Embassy in Dushanbe says the purpose of the visit is to discuss the process of providing a concessional loan for the construction of a road in Kulob as part of the cooperation between SFD and the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan. 

The Embassy says the project involves the construction of the Kulob Ring Road, for which the SFD will allocate a concessional loan of US$30 million.

"The road will have a total length of 14.5 kilometers and will play a crucial role in improving transport infrastructure, ensuring safe passenger and freight transportation," the Embassy stated.

Additionally, the project will enhance the level of transport connectivity in line with modern standards and contribute to the development of international transit, linking Central Asian countries with China and other countries.

"The project includes two highways, two bridges, a truck weighing station, and road equipment," the Saudi diplomatic mission noted.

It is worth mentioning that with the implementation of this project, the number of SFD initiatives in Tajikistan will reach 14, with total funding amounting to US$325 million.

Established in 1974, the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) began operations in 1975.  The SFD is a Saudi Arabian government agency that provides assistance to developing countries by financing social and infrastructure projects.  The Fund's development program seeks to support the economies of recipient countries by enhancing economic growth and promoting job opportunities.  It also administers loans and grants extended by the Saudi government to developing countries.
