DUSHANBE/KULOB, February 15, Asia-Plus - Heavy snowfalls that hit some districts in mountain areas of Tajikistan on the night of February 13-14 caused the roofs of medical and educational facilities as well as homes to collapse.
In Khatlon’s Mouminobod district, heavy snowfalls damaged a number of medical and educational facilities.
According to the Kulob emergency management agency, the heavy snowfalls caused the roof of the Mouminobod boarding school, which is house for 34 orphaned children to collapse. “Fortunately, no casualties were reported,” the source at the Kulob emergency management agency said.
He added that the roofs of general school # 13 and TB clinic in Mouminbodo had also collapsed.
The Committee for Emergency Situations confirmed this information, noting that patients were evacuated to other building.
A special commission has been set u in the district to assess an actual volume of damage caused to the district by heavy snowfalls.
