KHUJAND, February 18, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Abandoned baby girl has died of hunger at Sughd’s town of Taboshar.
According to the Sughd police directorate, one and half year old girl was found dead in cradle in an apartment at the town of Taboshar, some 40 kilometers of Khujand, the regional center of the Sughd province at the end of last week.
Forensic medical examination established that the baby girl had died of hunger. She was left alone in the apartment without care for at least 10-15 days.
Operation by local police led to the arrest of her mother, 19-year-old Guzal Qosimova, in Khujand. The preliminary investigation has established that Qosimova left her home on January 17, leaving the baby girl unattended.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Qosimova and an investigation is under way.
