QURGHON TEPPA, May 15, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Some organizations have already begun providing assistance to the mudslide-hit population in the Khuroson district.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the deputy governor of the Khatlon province, Saidumron Abdurahmonov, said that the UNDP Country Office in Tajikistan and Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) provided some 300 tents today morning.
According to him, Deputy Prime Minister Murodali Alimardon and the Khatlon governor Ghaybullo Afzal visited the mudslide site yesterday evening to closely monitor the situation. Khatlon’s authorities have already appealed to international organizations and commercial enterprises, asking to provide an urgent assistance to the disaster-hit people.
