DUSHANBE, May 20, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The death toll in Tajikistan from various disasters that hit the country in April and May this year has risen to 23 as two women were killed by mudslide in the Romit gorge yesterday night, according to the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES).
The tragedy occurred in the resort area of the Tajik Railways in Romit at some 11:00 p.m. “A powerful mudslide swept through the resort area and destroyed the resort’s cafeteria. Two women working with cafeteria were buried by the mudslide,” the source said, noting the bodies of the mudslide victims have not yet been found.
