KULOB, June 13, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Three persons that have got stuck in a mountain crack at the height of more than 200 meters in Khatlon’s Farkhor district have been rescued.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Farkhor emergencies official Juma Shamsiddinov said that local resident -- 16-year-old Orfijon Faqirov -- tried to climb a mountain in an unfamiliar area on June 12 and got stuck in a mountain crack at the height of more than 200 meters. “His 40-year-old uncle Pirmad Faqirov and 17-year-old neighbor Nekbakht Nazriyev who rushed to help him got stuck too,” said the Farkhor emergencies official, “They had to spend some 9 hours in the crack waiting for help.”
“Meanwhile, members of the rescue team, who are trained with support of the international organization Oxfam (Great Britain), have not yet completed the training course, and therefore, we could not enlist the services of them,” said Shamsiddinov, “We had to involve officers from the Farkhor police department in the rescue operation. Using equipment provided by Oxfam, we rescued them in the dead of the night.”
