QURGHON TEPPA, May 14, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Mudflows caused by torrential rain on the night of May 13-14 have caused serious damage to a number of villages in the Jomi district, Khatlon province.
Mirali Halimov, the deputy chief of the Khatlon emergency management agency, told Asia-Plus Friday afternoon that mudflows damaged agricultural fields in the district and more than 300 meters of the Yovon-Jomi-Uyali road. No injured was reported, according to him.
In the meantime, heavy rains flooded basements of a number of apartment buildings and several private houses at the Bahor and Pushkin streets in the city of Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province.
