DUSHANBE, August 8, 2011, Asia-Plus -- A large fire broke out this morning at the Dushanbe’s biggest market of “Korvon”. The fire broke out in “Elegant” section at 8 a.m. and was localized in an hour by 9 firefighting teams. The fire destroyed large area of the section – more than 200 square meters.
According to Mahmadyusuf Huseinov, Deputy Head of the Tajik Ministry of Interior’s Fire Department, the causes of the fire are not clear yet. A special commission has been set up to investigate the accident and calculate the damage. Police officers guard the market.
“Korvon” market located in south part of Dushanbe and occupies a territory of more than 14.000 square meters. It is one of the biggest markets in the country. There were several fire accidents at “Korvon”: four large fires caused severe damage to the market since December 2002. The total damage exceeds $3,5mln. Major cause for all fire accidents was short circuit. The last fire burst out at “Korvon” on August 13, 2008.
