DUSHANBE, February 6, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Despite heavy snowfalls that have hit the country in recent days most roads in Tajikistan remain open, Orif Nizomov, a spokesman for the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES), told Asia-Plus on Monday.
According to him, only the highway from Dushanbe to Khorog via the Hoburabot Pass is closed for traffic.
“A special stationary rescue post has been set up at the Maykhoura area, the 63 rd kilometer of the Dushanbe-Khujand-Chanak highway,” said Nizomov. “Rescuers, technical support group and medical workers working with the post are ready to provide assistance to automobilists at any moment.” Besides, special emergency commissions have been set up at the local authorities.
While most roads are open for traffic, people throughout much of Tajikistan are being advised not to travel unnecessarily.
