DUSHANBE, July 27, 2012, Asia-Plus – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation has urged Russian citizens, in particular mountaineers and tourists, to avoid travel to the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region in Tajikistan due to current safety and security concerns.
In a Travel Warning issued on July 27, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that border crossing checkpoints between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on the Pamirs stretch of the Tajik-Afghan border may be closed.
