KHUJAND, February 6, 2013, Asia-Plus -- One person has sustained several stab wounds in an attack on a currency exchange office in Khujand, the capital of the northern province of Sughd.
According to the Interior Ministry’s office for Sughd, the incident took place Tuesday morning, at around 8:00 am. “An assailant inflicted several stab wounds on the currency exchange office’s owner Ravshan Yusufjonov and seized 16,200 USD, 16,500 Russian rubles, 4,608 somoni and 427,700 Uzbek soms,” said an official source at the Interior Ministry’s office for Sughd. “The currency exchange office owner was taken to a hospital.”
According to him, 29-year-old resident of Konibodom, Akmal Mannonov, has been arrested on suspicion of having committed that crime.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Mannonov under the provisions of three articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 32 (2) – criminal attempt; Article 104 (2) – murder; and Article 249 (4) – robbery. An investigation is under way.
