DUSHAHBE, May 10, 2013, Asia-Plus – Fire has completely destroyed a boarding school for orphaned children in the Shouroobod district, Khatlon province, according to the Interior Minister firefighting department.
An official source at the Interior Ministry firefighting department says the fire broke out at 2:20 am today and fire crews extinguished the fire in two hours.
The orphanage was home for 60 children and all of them were evacuated in time, the source added.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Shouroobod boarding school for orphaned children was one of the oldest orphanages in Tajikistan. Its building was constructed in 1938.
