DUSHANBE, July 15, 2013, Asia-Plus – Afghanistan.ru reports that eight militants, including Tajik national Ahmad Bashir, were killed in an operation carried out by Afghan police in Kunduz province on July 14.
The incident reportedly took place in the Imam Sahib district and the skirmish lasted about three hours.
According to Afghanistan.ru, Aryan TV reported that decision to carry out a special operation against the militants had been made after their attack on a police convoy.
The Imam Sahib district is situated in the northern part of Kunduz province. It borders Tajikistan to the north (along the Panj River). The district center is the town of Imam Sahib, located in the northern part of the district. According to some reports, the area is home to a large number of Taliban including one of the Taliban''s regional leaders Mullah Salam.
