DUSHANBE, February 5, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Heavy snowfalls on February 3 caused an avalanche near the village of Kurgovad in GBAO’s Darvoz district that blocked the main highway from Dushanbe to the Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), according to the Ministry of Transport (MoT).
A source at a MoT says the avalanche was 5 meters in height and 25 meters in length.
“Road builders are working at the avalanche site to clear snow from the highway and it is expected to be reopened for traffic today afternoon,” the source added.
