DUSHANBE, April 29, 2014, Asia-Plus – Unidentified persons have reportedly beaten the first deputy chairman of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) Saidumar Husaini, who is also member of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon), in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
“I arrived in Khorog on Monday as member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon to explain the points of president’s address to a joint meeting of both chambers of the parliament,” Mr. Husaini told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the attack took place on the same day in the office of IRP’s organization for GBAO in Khorog. “The member of IRP board Shonaim Karimi also sustained slight injuries,” said IRP deputy leader.
“There were some 10 or 15 assailants. “There is no place for IRP in GBAO,” they chanted,” Mr. Husaini noted, adding that the assailants were mainly employees of the GBAO regional administration bodies.
IRP deputy leader says the GBAO regional administrators even did not receive him and he interrupted his trip to GBAO on Monday and returned to Dushanbe.
