DUSHANBE, May 4, 2014, Asia-Plus – The Interior Ministry says police officers played no role in the death of resident of the Nourobod district, Saymurod Orzouyev.
The Interior Ministry’s website reports that Saymurod Orzouyev was detained on April 25 after he crashed his car into a high-voltage pole near the village of Chorsada. Medical examination reportedly showed that he was in a state of drunkenness.
The website says police officers drew up a protocol on administrative infringement and Orzouyev was released. He was reportedly sent home by car of Nourobod resident, Qurbonali Saidov.
Meanwhile, Saymurod’s father, Ali Orzouyev, applied to the Nourobod police station on April 29 over disappearance of his son.
The body of Saymurod Orzouyev was found on April 30. Police say that according to the results of forensic medical examination, Saymurod Orzouyev died after falling from a 70-meter bridge across the Chanor River.
Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports that Saymurod Orzouyev’s relatives, however, claim that he could die after being beaten in the police station and police officers threw his body into the river.
