DUSHANBE, August 4, 2015, Asia-Plus -- Kyrgyz emergencies ministry warns of possible devastating quake in the country.
According to information posted on an official website of Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan predicts that the next phase of seismic hazard is expected in the country this year.
A devastating earthquake measuring 9.0 is reportedly expected to hit Kyrgyzstan’s areas bordering Tajikistan.
“The most dangerous places are areas of Batken and Osh regions bordering Tajikistan and China, where earthquake measuring 7.0-9.0 may occur,” the information says.
Earthquakes are reportedly also possible in northern Tian Shan (Issyk-Kul region) and the South Ferghana fault (Osh and Batken regions).
