The head of the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CES), Rustam Nazarzoda today morning flew by helicopter to Sangvor district (formerly Tavildara district) where a huge avalanche buried several houses three days ago, Ms. Umeda Yusupova, a spokeswoman for CES, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
No casualties have been reported so far, according to Yusupova.
Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, citing local police officer Muhammad Safiyev, reported that an avalanche that occurred on February 19 buried three houses in the Kalp village of the Sangvor district. One person was killed and 17 others survived the avalanche, Safiyev was quoted as saying.
