Death toll from the avalanche that hit the Shosh-Kharagh area in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Wednesday morning has reportedly risen to five.
A resident of Khorog told Asia-Plus by phone that the bodies of five persons, killed by the avalanche, are in the morgue of the reginal central hospital of Khorog.
According to him, those five persons, including two children, are resident of Murgab district who rented a room in one of the houses in the Shosh-Kharagh area.
“In all, eight people lived in that house and those three others have not yet been found,” the source added.

The avalanche has reportedly destroyed the power transmission line and water supply line in Khorog and the city has been left without electricity and water.
Meanwhile, a resident of GBAO’s Vanj district says one person was killed by an avalanche in the district Wednesday morning.
The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan has confirmed that a resident of Tekharv village in Vanj district was killed by an avalanche today morning.
