According to Volcano Discovery, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck Afghanistan on the night of November 3. The epicenter was located 23 kilometers southwest of Tashqurghan in Balkh province.  

The tremors were also felt in neighboring countries. In Tajikistan, the earthquake was felt at 1:29 AM Dushanbe time. Based on social media comments, many residents were alarmed by the duration and intensity of the quake. The seismic activity was also felt in Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. So far, there have been no reports of damage or casualties in these countries.

Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, where the epicenter was located, authorities have reported more than 20 deaths and around 200 injuries.

More than 55,400 earthquakes recorded worldwide in a month

In the past 30 days, Afghanistan recorded 175 earthquakes: one with a magnitude above 6, three between 5 and 6, thirty-nine between 4 and 5, 115 between 3 and 4, and seventeen between 2 and 3.

Tajikistan registered 233 seismic events during the same period, including one with a magnitude higher than 6.

In total, 1,093 earthquakes were recorded across Central Asia and Afghanistan in the last month, accounting for about 2% of all global seismic activity.

Between October 4 and November 3, a total of 55,480 earthquakes of varying magnitudes were recorded worldwide. Among them:

• 1 earthquake with a magnitude above 8;
• 6 between 7 and 8;
• 127 between 6 and 7;
• 1,223 between 5 and 6;
• 10,745 between 4 and 5;
• Over 43,000 with a magnitude below 4.

These figures highlight a high level of seismic activity around the globe over the past month.
