DUSHANBE , March 27, Asia-Plus -- Officers from the Interior Ministry department for combating drug trafficking (drug police) have intercepted some 13 kilograms of drugs on the highway from Dushanbe to Khujand.  

The Tajik drug police deputy chief, Dilovar Vazirov, has told Asia-Plus that officers from the Ayni police directorate yesterday detained a car “GAZ-3102” belonging to the Kulob-based planning institute.  When searching the car police found 8.5 kilograms of heroin and more than four kilograms of raw opium in a bag of the passenger, resident of the Vose district Isroil Safarov. 

The driver Habibullo Bozorov and his passenger Isroil Safarov were arrested on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking.  The investigation is under way.
