, August 4, Asia-Plus - On Thursday August 3, Tajikistan Supreme Court completed the consideration of criminal proceedings instituted against Ghaffor Mirzoyev, former commander of
Tajikistan
’s Presidential Guards and former director of the country’s Drug Control Agency (DCA).
Mr. Abduqayum Yusufov, Mirzoyev’s defense lawyer, has told Asia-Plus that his client telling the trial said that he is innocent of all the charges he faces. According to Mr. Yusufov, a verdict is expected in near future.
We will recall that a prosecutor in the trial of Ghaffor Mirzoyev has asked the court to sentence Mirzoyev to death. The trial of Ghaffor Mirzoyev began behind closed doors in
Dushanbe
on January 11. Ghaffor Mirzoyev faces charges, including deliberate killing, embezzlement, terrorism, and attempting to mount a coup.
