KULOB, November 17, 2008, Asia-Plus -- Two cases of bride kidnapping (woman is abducted with the intent to force her to marry) have been reported in Khatlon’s Kulob region this year, Alfattoh Roziqov, deputy Khatlon prosecutor in charge of the Kulob region, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
“Fortunately, both cases have ended well,” said the deputy prosecutor, “Thus, in one of cases, the 17-year-old woman from Kulob refused to marry and was returned to her parent’s house.”
He also noted that compared to January-October 2007 the number of crimes in the Kulob region has decreased.
Over the first ten months of this year, ten killings, including four committed in the previous year, have been solved and two killers have been sentenced to life imprisonment, Roziqov said.
170 various firearms and more than 4,500 bullets of different caliber have been confiscated by local law enforcement authorities over the same ten-month period. Besides, 700 kilograms of narcotic drugs have been seized in the region over the report period.
