KHUJAND, October 22, 2009, Asia-Plus -- A 26-year-old woman from the Bobojonghafurov district was arrested yesterday after she tried to sell her newborn to local woman for US$600 and 300 somoni, according to the Sughd police directorate.
The woman, Savrinisso Maqsoudova, was arrested near the regional hospital in Khujand after she tried to hand over the baby, a daughter, to a 25-year-old Muyassar Sayfiddinova.
Maqsoudova gave birth four days ago, the source said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Maqsoudova under the provisions of Article 167, Part 1 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – selling and buying of minors.
