DUSHANBE, November 19, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The Government of Germany has provided US$100,000 technical assistance to the Tajik Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The assistance, including computers, copy machines, as well as audio and video equipment, was handed over to a MoI on November 18.
The assistance-handover ceremony was attended by Tajik Minister of Interiors, Abdurahim Qahhorov, German Ambassador to Tajikistan, Doris Hertrampf, Liaison Officer of the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) of Germany, Herbert Maassen, and some other officials.
According to the source, an agreement on this technical assistance was reached during a meeting of Tajik Minister of Interiors Abdurahim Qahhorov with the BKA President Jorg Ziercke that was held in Dushanbe in early November.
“Similar assistance will be provided to the Drug Control Agency and the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) in the near future as well,” the MoI source said, noting that cooperation of the Tajik MoI with law enforcement authorities of other countries has been intensified in recent years.
Some 70 international agreements regulating both general issues and separate directions of the crime prevention cooperation are currently working in the country’s law enforcement sphere, he added.
