QURHGON TEPPA, July 7, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Sayzhafar Rahimov, engineering-in-chief with the road transport department of Qumsangir district in Khatlon province, is suspected to having embezzled almost 123,000 somoni, Asia-Plus has learned from Hikmatullo Ismatov, the head of the corruption prevention department within the Khatlon anticorruption directorate.
According to him, Rahimov has embezzled 122,795 somoni of state funds allocated from the national budget for repairing roads in the district.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Sayzhafar Rahimov and an investigation is under way.
According to the Khatlon anticorruption directorate, 145 corruption-related crimes have been detected in the province since the beginning of this year; 64 criminal proceedings have been instituted against 74 people and 43 of those crimes have already moved to courts.
