KHUJAND, July 13, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Alleged activist out of the outlawed religious extremist Hizb ut-Tahrir organization has been detained in Khujand, the capital of Sughd province.
According to the Sughd police directorate, a 26-year-ld resident of Khujand, Yusuf Okhounov, was detained yesterday on suspicion of having been member of the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Okhounov under the provisions of three articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – Article 187, Pat 2 (organization of criminal grouping), Article 189, Part 3 (incitement of national, racial, regional or religious enmity), and Article 307, Part 3 (public calls for extremist activity).
“The preliminary investigation has established that Yusuf Okhounov joined the Hizb ut-Tahrir party in October 2004 and was carrying out an active propagation in the city of Khujand,” the source said.
