DUSHANBE, August 5, 2010, Asia-Plus  -- It is not correct to accuse the whole education sector of corruption because of some corrupt employees, the source at the Ministry of Education (MoE) said, commenting on a statement made by the anticorruption chief at a news conference in Dushanbe last Saturday.

“The education sector consists of 4,000 educational facilities and 120,000 teachers and not all of them are corrupted,” the source said, noting that the statement offended dignity of dozens of thousands of teachers in the country.

According to him, the MoE is against generalization and states that detection of some shortcomings is not evidence of the fact that the whole sector is corrupted.  It is not fair to link shortcomings of a number of facilities to the Ministry of Education, the source added.

We will recall that the anticorruption agency chief Fattoh Saidov told reporters on July 31 that there is no any higher education institution in the country at which cases of corruption have not been reported.  Saidov noted that the rates of bribe for entering local prestigious universities now fluctuate from 15,000 to 20,000 U.S. dollars.  “Thus, one of teachers at Tajik State Medical University has demanded 20,000 U.S. dollars as bribe,” the anticorruption agency chief noted.
