DUSHANBE, February 12, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Sughd police officers have foiled drug trafficking attempt in Bobojonghafurov district.
According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), police officers stopped suspect car VAZ-2017 in Bobojonghafurov district on February 11. “Some 2 kilograms of hashish were found hidden in the car,” said the MoI source, “The car owner, 56-year-old resident of Isfara district, A.J., was arrested on suspicion of drug pushing.”
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the alleged drug peddler and an investigation is under way, the source said.
We will recall that Tajik law enforcement authorities seized some 640 kilograms of narcotics last month alone. A totaled included more than 42 kilograms of heroin, some 68 kilograms of raw opium and more than 528 kilograms of cannabis. The MoI officers accounted for major part (232 kilograms) of narcotics seized in the country in January.
