DUSHANBE, July 16, 2011, Asia-Plus -- The number of crimes related to illegal allotment of land has increased in Tajikistan.

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, the Supreme Court head Nusratullo Abdulloyev revealed on July 15 that over the first six months of this year the number of criminal proceedings instituted over illegal allotment of land has doubled compared to the same period last year.

“66 such criminal proceedings have been instituted against 76 persons over the report period, while only 34 such criminal proceedings were instituted against 34 persons in January-June 2010,” said Abdulloyev.  “It means that the authorities have tightened control over allotment of lands.”

According to him, the Supreme Court has received 1,352 complaints over the same six-month period, which is nearly twice as much compared to January-June 2010.

Abdulloyev attributes increase in the number of complaints and applications to the Supreme Court to increase in the legal awareness of the population.
