KHUJAND, January 18, 2013, Asia-Plus -- in 2012, 30 residents of Sughd province, including one woman, were arrested outside Tajikistan for drug trafficking, Halimjon Mahmoudov, the head of the Drug Control Agency (DCA)’s office for Sughd announced at a news conference in Khujand on January 17.
“38 kilograms of narcotics, including 14 kilograms of heroin, were confiscate from them,” Mahmoudov noted.
He added that 57 residents of Sughd were arrested outside Tajikistan for similar crimes in 2011, and more than 219 kilograms of narcotics, including 117 kilograms of heroin, were confiscated from them.
Last year, Sughd law enforcement authorities arrested five foreign nationals on drug charges, including Kazakh national arrested with more than 10 kilograms of heroin and one citizen of Uzbekistan, who was detained with 143 grams of raw opium, Mahmoudov said.
