KHUJAND, April 8, 2013, Asia-Plus -- A resident of the northern city of Khujand has got a long jail term for an attempt to kill a police officer.
The Sughd regional court sentenced Olim Jumayev, 21, to 15 years in prison on April 6. The sentence followed his conviction on charges of preparation fro crime or criminal attempt (Article 32 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code) and murder of a person in connection with his service activities (Article 104 (2). Jumayev will serve his term in a high-security penal colony.
“Investigation has established that Jumayev inflicted several stab wounds on police officer Rustam Khoushvaqtov on August 5, 2012. The police officer remained alive by a miracle,” an official source at the Sughd regional court told Asia-Plus I an interview.
