DUSHANBE, September 16, 2013, Asia-Plus – Tajik opposition leader, Umarali Quvvatov’s lawyer claims that United Arab Emirates officials have denied his extradition to the Tajik side.
Nikolay Nikolaev stated that they do not possess documents stating the contrary.
Mr. Nikolaev stated: “We lawyers, only believe documents. We see that Tajik special services deliberately mislead the UAE authorities. We have been able to prove it now. We are waiting for the ruling.”
Meanwhile, at the end of August, an informed source in Tajik law-enforcement agencies reported to Asia-Plus that the issue on extradition of Group 24 political movement leader, Umarali Quvvatov, may be resolved within a week.
The source said then: “We won all legal hearings; that is both levels of the courts decided to extradite Quvvatov to Tajikistan. Quvvatov and his lawyer’s appeal are rejected. Only technical issues are left to decide.”
