DUSHANBE, October 11, 2013, Asia-Plus -- A workshop on investigating corruption concluded at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan on October 10.

A national lawyer and an international investigator briefed 16 specialists on techniques for investigating corruption-related crimes, the rights of persons under investigation and the rights and obligations of investigators under Tajik law.

Participants reportedly familiarized themselves with investigation practices and international instruments relating to money transactions, money laundering and the tracing of assets.

The Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, Ambassador Markus Mueller, said: “Training on state of the art techniques for investigating corruption-related crimes will improve Tajikistan’s authorities’ ability to conduct investigations according to international standards and the rule of law.  It will enhance the overall professionalism of the law enforcement system.”

Specialists from the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Customs Service, the Training Center for Advanced Studies of the Customs Service, the Tax Committee, the Prosecutor-General''s Office, the State Committee for National Security and the Department of Financial Monitoring under the National Bank took part in the training.

A similar workshop was conducted by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan in June 2013.
