KHUJAND, February 25, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Fratricide from the northern Sughd province has been sentenced to 19 years in jail.
Resident of the Khistevarz jamoat in the Bobojonghafourov district, Firdavs Maqsoudov, 23, stabbed his 17-year-old sister to death following quarrel. The murder was committed in September last year.
The Sughd regional court sentenced Firdavs Maqsoudov to 19 years in prison on February 24. The sentence followed his conviction on the charge of murder of an underage person (Article 104 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).
Maqsoudov will serve his term in a high-security penal colony.
According to the Interior Ministry’s office in Sughd, 44 murders were reported in Sughd last year, which was 6 cases more than in 2012.
