DUSHANBE, March 5, 2014, Asia-Plus – The Prosecutor-General’s Office has launched investigation into the death of prison inmate Zafar Khislatov.
“Zafar Khislatov, who was serving his jail term in Dushanbe-based prison # 1, committed suicide by hanging himself on March 3,” representative of Tajik Ombudsman’s Office, Ms. Rajabmo Badriddinova, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
“We have talked to the prison warden and he has confirmed that Khislatov committed suicide. The cause of the suicide is still unknown,” said Badriddinova. “The Prosecutor-General’s Office has launched investigation into the death of Zafar Khislatov.”
According to her, the version that Khislatov committed suicide after being tortured is not considered yet, because there are no appropriate applications on this subject from Khislatov’s relatives or witnesses.
