DUSHANBE, June 16, 2014, Asia-Plus – A prosecutor in the trial of Usmon Ghayratov, medic of military unit 2026 of Tajik Border Troops facing charge of bullying, asked the court of the Dushanbe military garrison on June 16 to sentence Usmon Ghayratov to a 10-year prison term and exact 12,000 somoni from him for the victim.
Ghayratov, who faces charges of violation of regulations for mutual relations between servicemen (Article 373 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code) and leaving in danger (Article 127 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code), has admitted his guilt partially.
Criminal proceedings have also been instituted against Ms. Gulraftor Shirinova, who also serves as medic in military unit 2026. She faces charge of dereliction of official duties.
Shirinova was on duty on March 6, when the incident took place, but she left her post at 6:00 pm (the incident took place at 7:00 pm).
The prosecutor asked the court to obligate Ms. Shirinova to pay 15 of her salary in favor of state during two years.
We will recall that Usmon Ghayratov severely beat soldier Shahbol Mirzoyev on March 6 in the presence of other servicemen.
Shahbol Mirzoyev, who is a victim of hazing, returned home on May 19 after undergoing surgery and three weeks of medical treatment in a military hospital in Krasnogorsk, Moscow oblast. He suffered severe spinal injuries and became paralyzed as the result of bullying in March.
