DUSHANBE, July 9, 2014, Asia-Plus - A court in Dushanbe has ruled that Fakhriddin Zokirov, one of defense lawyers of Tajik tycoon Zayd Saidov, can be held in detention for two other months until September 6.
Lawyer Buzuqmehr Yorov, who represents Fakhriddin Zokirov in court, says the court handed down this ruling on July 6 following a request from the officer from the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption, Firdavsi Niyozbadalov.
The previous ruling on extending the detention for Fakhriddin Zokirov was handed down on May 6.
We will recall that Fakhriddin Zokirov was arrested by the anticorruption officers on March 7 on suspicion of obtaining a large loan through false pretenses. Zokirov and his partner in crime are charged with large-scale fraud (Article 247 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).
According to the anticorruption agency, Fakhriddin Zokirov and his partner in crime pledged non-existent cotton ginnery to obtain a 1 million USD loan from the Tojik Sodirot Bonk (TSB). To-date, they have reportedly reimbursed only half a sum.
