KHUJAND, May 20, 2016, Asia-Plus – Five residents of the northern province of Sughd have been jailed for an attempt to travel to Syria to fight with the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.
The Khujand city court sentenced four residents of the city of Khujand and one resident of the Bobojonghafourov district sentenced to prison terms between half a year and ten years on May 19.
The 21-year-old resident of Khujand Farrukh Qodirov and the 24-year-old resident of Khujand Qobil Fozilov were sentenced to 10 years in prison each.
The sentence followed their conviction on charges of illegally involving people in foreign armed conflicts (Article 407’ of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).
The 47-year-old resident of Bobojonghafourov district Rahim Rouziyev was sentenced to one year in prison, while the 45-year-old resident of Khujand Muhammadjon Yusupov and the 30-year-old resident of Khujand Sherali Yusupov were sentenced to half a year in prison each.
They were jailed for not reporting a crime (Article 347 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).
