The husband of well-known Tajik blogger Rukhshona Rahmatulloyeva was arrested in Dushanbe following her complaint of domestic violence, the Dushanbe Police Department official website reported yesterday evening.  

Rukhshona Rahmatulloyeva, known on Instagram as Sofi_1111 (with over 400,000 subscribers), reached out to authorities through an electronic appeal, in which she reported being beaten and roughly treated by her 32-year-old husband, Umed Rahmatulloyev.

“A conducted investigation, including interrogations of the suspect, the victim, and witnesses, confirmed the facts of violence and misunderstandings in the family,” reads the statement.

The capital’s police department notes that a court in Dushanbe’s Shohmansour district has sentenced Umed Rahmatulloyev to seven days of administrative arrest. The Shohmansour District Court sentenced him to 7 days of administrative arrest, noted the capital's police.

Meanwhile, a day before this, the blogger’s subscribers sent to Asia-Plus screenshots of the blogger's post on her page, where she reported that her husband was violent towards her and threatened her with a knife.  They have been married for five years.  


On her posts, Ruskhshona Rahmatulloyeva mentioned that her husband spends all day sleeping and staying at home, while she has to work and support the family.

It is worth noting that the problem of domestic violence in Tajikistan is very pressing. According to the Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law, 50 to 80% of women and children in the country suffer from domestic violence.

According to a 2021 United Nations Development Program study, in Tajikistan, 20 percent of women experience physical violence, 31 percent of women face economic violence, 21 percent endure psychological violence and 6 percent experience sexual violence.
