DUSHANBE, March 14, 201, Asia-Plus -- Tajik parliamentary delegation has left for Brussels to attend the first meeting of an inter-parliamentary commission between Tajikistan and the European Parliament, Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), said.
According to him, the delegation members include the Majlisi Namoyandagon members Galiya Rabiyeva, Restam Latipov and Lutufllo Saidmurodov.
“During two days, the commission will discuss issues related to observance of human rights, strengthening of democratic institutions in Tajikistan, providing regional security as well as economic cooperation between the European Union and Tajikistan,” said the spokesman, “During their stay in Brussels, Tajik MPs are also scheduled to hold talks with senior officials from the European Energy Charter to discuss development of Tajikistan’s energy sector.”
The inter-parliamentary commission between Tajikistan and the European Union was set up on the basis of an agreement signed in Luxembourg in 2004.
