DUSHANBE, May 30, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Scotland, Mr. Struan Stevenson, arrived in Dushanbe today on a two-day visit.
Davlat Nazriyev, a spokesman for the Tajik MFA, says during his stay in Tajikistan, MEP Stevenson is scheduled to meet with President Emomali Rahmon, Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Speaker Shukurjon Zuhurov and members of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Environmental Commission. Mr. Stevenson is also expected to meet with representatives of the country’s civil society.
Last year, MEP Struan Stevenson applied to leader f the European countries to support construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in Tajikistan that will promote economic development of the region. According to him, Uzbekistan’s objections against Roghun’s construction are unfounded and politically motivated.
Mr. Struan Stevenson is a Scottish politician. He is a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Scotland and President of the Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development Intergroup in the European Parliament, in addition to which, he is member of the Executive of the Scottish Conservative Party.
